Preventive Health Research Fellowship Program21 June 2013
The Agency has awarded three full-time Fellowships for its Preventive Health Research Fellowships Program.
The successful recipients are:
- Nicole Au (Monash University) - will examine the immediate and long-term economic consequences of childhood and adolescent obesity.
- Megan Lim (The Burnet Institute) - will explore reducing young people’s alcohol consumption and other risk behaviours using social media.
- Jackie Street (The University of Adelaide) - will collect and evaluate Indigenous views on the use of appropriate measures to prevent obesity in children.
The purpose of the Agency's Preventive Health Research Fellowship Program is to enable preventive health knowledge development and exchange between researchers and policy/program officers to the benefit of both parties.
The Research Fellows will directly provide for development and translation of evidence related to the Agency’s work program and wider national preventive health program development.
The funding will also support the Research Fellows to develop their leadership skills – both in Australia and internationally – and to increase the opportunity for policy-makers to engage more fully with the research community in developing effective policies.
The Research Fellows are required to produce cutting edge and significant new findings within their subject area, of benefit for preventive health policy development for health promotion practice or for improving the research-practice and research-policy interchange for preventive health.
